2. Canva AI Art (Beta)

Best AI image editor

Canva AI image generator

Canva is an online image editing app that has released a NEW feature (in Beta) to create AI images too.

One of the great features of Canva’s AI image generator is that you can also edit the AI images you create within the Canva app. Canva is the only AI image generator that actually lets you edit the images it generates.

Key features:

  • Create AI images in different styles
  • Create AI images in different image sizes & resolutions
  • Edit the AI images you create
  • Save the AI images you create in different file formats
  • Lots of additional image editing features built-in

To use Canva’s AI text-to-image tool, you first need to sign up for a free Canva account.

Once you’ve signed up, you need to create a new design.

How to use Canva text to image tool

And from this screen, you can type in the text that you want to turn into an AI-generated image.

3. Picsart

Picsart website

Best free AI image generator

Picsart is the best free AI image generator on this list. What I like about picsart is that it offers an all-in-one AI image generation platform.

In other words, you can use Picsart to turn text into AI images, edit existing images with AI and even design on-the-go with Picsart mobile and tablet app.

Here’s an example of using Picsart to turn text into an AI generated image:

Picsart example

4. Dream by WOMBO

Best for creating NFT art

Dream Wombo Art

Dream by Wombo is another AI-powered platform that allows you to create incredible AI images from text. It uses a variety of algorithms and machine learning techniques to interpret the text and generate an image that represents it.

The good thing about Dream by Wombo is you can start using it for free. The problem with Dream by Wombo is that it’s not as advanced as other AI image generators. It requires a lot more input from you to get the image right.

Here’s an example of me asking Dream to create an image of a robot using a laptop:

Dream by Wombo image generator example

You can see it tried… but it’s not quite there! (compared to the Jasper Art image above)

Here’s another example of me asking it to draw “a woman in front of a mountain”:

Another example of woman standing in a mountain AI generated art

It’s a little bit better, but still not as good as Jasper AI (the number 1 choice above).

But on the other hand, this tool is free to start using and play around with!

5. Lensa AI by Prisma Labs

Best selfie AI image generator

Lensa AI is a unique AI image generator app for iPhone and Android.

Lensa AI gives you a lot of image editing features using AI, but the most popular feature is the feature called “Magic Avatars”. Magic Avatars turn your photos into AI generated selfies.

I have to admit, the AI generated selfies created by Lensa AI look amazing!

But for it to work properly you need to first upload a variety of selfies of yourself from your camera roll.

Here’s an example of AI generated avatars by Lensa:

AI generated avatars

Is there a cost to all this?

Yes. Lensa’s AI avatar feature is not free and there is an extra charge for this (as an in-app purchase).

But the good news is that you can TRY it for FREE before you pay for it.

6. Stablecog

Excellent free AI image generator

Stablecog is a new free AI image generator that allows you to create impressive AI generated art in seconds.

I like that you can use Stablecog’s AI image generator to create AI art in a variety of styles, including anime, 3D digital art, 3D comic-book, 3D renders and animated movie styles.

Here’s an example of an AI generated image using the text “robot flying around the world” which was generated in 4 seconds:

Key features:

  • It’s free, for everyone, without a sign up. There are no credit limits like there is on almost every other generator out there. You can start a generation every 8 seconds with the free account (that’s tens of thousands of generations per month)
  • It’s multi-lingual. The app is translated to 11 languages, and the generator itself understands 70+ (even if UI is not translated to Japanese, you can enter Japanese prompts and get good results)
  • There are custom models in addition to Stable Diffusion, namely: Openjourney, Arcane Diffusion, Redshift Diffusion, Mo-Di Diffusion and Ghibli Diffusion. More is on the way.
  • The entire app is open-source on GIThub and MIT licensed. That means anyone can fork it, change it, use it or sell it to anyone if they like.
  • It offers a pro subscription which gets you the following: Faster generation time, more image dimensions (free is only 512 x 512), more inference steps and more AI models. It also gives you the upscale feature which enhances the resolution drastically. Your images also get uploaded to your private “bucket”, so every single generation is saved.

Overall, Stablecog has one of the best free tiers around. It doesn’t hit you with a sign up page after creating 100 generations. You can stay in the free tier indefinitely and if you like what pro offers, you upgrade. Since it’s open-source, there is nothing to hide. You can see the entire system for yourself (how they treat user data etc.). I also think the interface is pretty nice and user-friendly. 🙂

7. Starry AI

Best AI image generator app

Starry AI homepage

Starry AI is a new text to image AI platform that was released in early 2020. It’s still in Beta, but they are already making some big waves in the industry.

Starry AI allows you to create images from text by using a simple interface. All you need to do is type in the text and Starry AI will generate an image for you.

The best thing about Starry AI is that it’s very easy to use and the results are pretty good!

Here are some examples of Starry AI in action:

Starry AI examples

As you can see, Starry AI is great for abstract art, photos and images.

However, it’s not the best AI image generator for creating ultra-realistic photos from your inputs.

You can download Starry AI on the Apple iPhone or Android App Store by searching for “Starry AI”.

8. Nightcafe

Best AI art generator

Nightcare home

If you’re looking for an AI image generator that can create art from text, look no further than NightCafe Creator. It uses a neural network to interpret the text and generate an image that represents it.

There are unlimited style choices with NightCafe Creator, so you’re sure to find one that suits your needs. And if you need help getting started, there are sensible presets that can guide you in the right direction.

Best of all, you can generate up to five images per day for free. So why not give it a try? You might be surprised at the results.

You can download this AI image generator on your phone by searching for “Nightcafe” in the app store or visiting Nightcafe.studio

9. Dall-E

Best AI image generator API

Dall-e homepage

Dall-E is an AI image generator that creates images from text captions for a wide range of concepts expressible in natural language.

Who is Dall-E good for?

Dall-E is perfect for web developers who want to use the API to create their own AI image generator tool.

It has a diverse set of capabilities, including creating anthropomorphized versions of animals and objects, combining unrelated concepts in plausible ways, rendering text, and applying transformations to existing images.

Dalle-E is the most advanced AI image generator on this list. However, right now, Dalle-E is only available to a select few people, and there’s a very long waiting list to get your hands on it.

But we’re sure that it will be open to the public soon.

So keep an eye out for it!

10. Pixray (Text 2 Image)

Best AI pixel art generator

If you’re looking for an AI image generator that can turn text into art pixel art, Pixray is a great option. With its perception engine and ability to navigate latent space, it can create some really stunning concept art.

Not to mention, it’s a breeze to use – simply enter your text and watch Pixray create art instantly!

And if you’re not satisfied with the results, you can always adjust the settings to try to get the perfect image.

But this is where the problem with Pixray begins.

It often doesn’t create the ‘perfect image’ straight away. So you’re probably going to need to go back and keep tweaking your inputs until you get it right.

Here’s an example of me asking Pixray to create an image of a robot using a laptop:

Pixray AI image example

As you can see, it’s far from perfect, compared to other AI art tools

With some tweaks to the inputs, it can get better results, but another problem is that each time you run the tool, it takes 5+ minutes to generate an image.

So Pixray is not the best option if you’re looking to create images in seconds (not minutes!).

What I like & dislike about Pixray

Pros:

  • Easy to Use
  • Great artistic painting-like images
  • Free to use

Cons:

  • Images take a very long time to compose (usually 5+ minutes)
  • Only produces one image at a time
  • Struggles to do photo-realistic AI images
  • Doesn’t always get the images to look how you want them

Overall, I think Pixray is a great tool for creating AI images from text. It’s easy to use and produces good results depending on your inputs. However, the long wait times for each image can be a bit frustrating. But if you’re willing to wait a few minutes for each image and you don’t want to spend money on something better, Pixray is definitely worth checking out!

11. Deep Dream Generator

Deep dream generator AI homepage

Deep Dream Generator is an AI image generator that uses a neural network to interpret and generate images. It’s similar to Pixray in that it can take text as input and generate an image, but the results are often quite different.

Deep dream AI image examples

Deep Dream Generator tends to create more “abstract” images, as you can see in the example above. The results can be interesting, but it’s not always clear what the input text was supposed to represent.

Deep Dream Generator is also a bit more difficult to use than Pixray. You have to select an image to serve as a “seed” for the generator, and then you have to adjust a number of settings before it will generate an image.

What I like & dislike about Deep Dream Generator

Pros:

  • Can create interesting “abstract” images
  • Great for artists or people working in creative industries
  • Free to use
  • Can be used to create abstract AI generated videos

Cons:

  • Difficult to use
  • Tends to produce less photo-realistic images than other AI image generators
  • Not the best solution for business owners

The results of Deep Dream Generator can be interesting, but it’s not always clear what the input text was supposed to represent. However, from an artistic point of view, the results of Deep Dream Generator can be amazing.

Especially for some of their videos created entirely in AI.

12. Deep AI

Deep AI Image Generator is an AI image generator that uses a neural network to interpret and generate images. It’s similar to Pixray in that it can take text as input and generate an image, but the results are often quite different.

Deep AI Image Generator tends to create more “abstract” images. The results can be interesting, but it’s not always clear what the input text was supposed to represent.

Unfortunately, the free version of the text-to-image AI tool doesn’t always work, as seen here:

Deep AI example

So, you’ll need to upgrade to a paid plan if you want to get the most from Deep AI.

However, when compared to other AI image generator tools, there are better options.

13. ArtBreeder

Artbreeder homepage

ArtBreeder is a great tool for anyone looking to create unique and interesting images.

What is ArtBreeder good for?

ArtBreeder allows you to create a variety of images, from abstract to realistic.

You can try ArtBreeder for free in your web browser by clicking here. Then click on “New Collage” and type in the text you want to turn into an image.

Here’s an example of AI-generated art using the input “robot using laptop”:

Artbreeder example

Again, it’s a good try… But still not quite as good as other AI image generators (such as Jasper Art above).

However, after creating an account, you do get more advanced features. It also gives you access to new AI image generator options that other tools on this list don’t have.

For example, you can crossbreed two images together or edit the genes of images with sliders.

Overall, ArtBreeder is a great way to explore the possibilities of AI image generation. With its easy-to-use interface and variety of AI image generator options, it’s a great AI image software solution for anyone interested in creating unique images.

14. Photosonic by Writesonic

Photosonic

Photosonic is a new AI art and image generator tool. It requires no account, no login and no software download to start using it.

Photosonic can create both realistic, abstract, cartoon and painting-style art using AI.

Here’s an example of me asking Photosonic to create an image using AI:

Photosonic AI image generator

As you can see the results are quite good!

What I like & dislike about Photosonic

Pros:

  • Creates AI images quickly and easily
  • Free to use
  • AI images look great

Cons:

  • All images have a “Photosonic” watermark which you can’t remove (unlike Jasper Art which has no watermark)
  • Doesn’t give you a lot of ways to customize your image settings
  • You can only save images in a square 1:1 format. It would be great to be able to save images in a widescreen format too.

15. Hypotenuse AI

Hypotenuse AI image generator

Hypotenuse is a new advanced AI text-to-image generator. The AI has been trained by artists and graphic designers to create unique images of anything you describe!

Here is an example of Hypotenuse AI painting a picture of ‘a whale swimming in a desert oasis under the moonlight’:

What I like & dislike about Hypotenuse

Pros:

  • Great drawings in lots of different styles
  • Easy to use
  • Low cost ($24/month for 200 watermark-free AI images or $49/month for unlimited watermark-free AI images)

Cons:

  • Not free
  • You can’t create widescreen large resolution images

16. Craiyon (formerly DALL-E mini)

Best free AI image generator

Text to image AI generator

Craiyon (formerly known as DALL-E mini) is the best free AI image generator that can turn any text you write into impressive AI artwork.

Here’s an example of me asking Craiyon to create an image of a robot using a laptop:

Craiyon AI image example

As you can see the quality is quite good and you get several versions of the same image to choose from.

Another advantage to Craiyon’s AI image generator is that the images don’t have any watermarks and the AI images are all completely free for anyone to use.

What I like & dislike about Craiyon

Pros:

  • Free to use
  • Unlimited AI image generations
  • No signup or registration required

Cons:

  • AI images take time to create (usually 2+ minutes)
  • Some text inputs won’t create what you’re looking for
  • Images are for personal use only (not business)

Craiyon is a great AI image tool if you want to try a completely free AI image generator with no sign-up page required. You can type in any keywords you like and see your AI-generated art in a few minutes!

Try out Craiyon for yourself

Which text-to-image generator is best?

All in all, the AI image generators tested here are great tools for creating high-quality images without any design experience or extra time needed. If you’re looking to quickly and easily create custom visuals for your website, blog articles, social media posts, or other marketing materials, my recommendation would be Jasper AI. In my experience, Jasper creates the best-looking images in the fastest time from my tests. It’s also the AI image generator tool I currently use to create some of the images for my blog.

What is an AI image generator?

An AI Image generator is a tool that allows you to generate images from text. It uses artificial intelligence to interpret the text and create an image that represents it.

And now, artificial intelligence is being used in graphic design and image creation too!
