Many financial advisors researching Skyline Social want to know whether our marketing systems can work within their firm’s compliance policies.

It’s a fair question.

Financial advisors operate in one of the most heavily regulated industries in the world, and marketing rules vary depending on the advisor’s firm, broker-dealer, or compliance department.

Skyline Social specializes in marketing systems specifically designed for financial advisors and other regulated professionals, which means compliance considerations are built into the structure of our campaigns from the start.

The short answer is:

Yes… Skyline Social is designed to work alongside compliance requirements rather than around them.

However, it’s important to understand that compliance ultimately belongs to the advisor and their firm. No marketing agency can legally guarantee compliance because rules vary depending on things like:

  • SEC vs state-registered advisors
  • Broker-dealer vs independent RIA structures
  • Individual firm compliance policies

What Skyline Social does is structure marketing campaigns in a way that allows advisors and their compliance departments to review and approve materials before anything goes live.

How Skyline Social Handles Compliance

When we build marketing campaigns for financial advisors, this is the process we typically follow:

Step 1: We create a draft of the marketing content (e.g. the video sales letter script or Facebook ad text).

Step 2: We send it to you and you forward it to compliance for approval.

Step 3: Compliance either approve the content or request changes.

Step 4: If compliance requests changes, we go back and forth making changes until everything is approved.

How Skyline Social handles compliance for financial advsiors

Will compliance approve my marketing campaign?

In most cases, the answer is yes.

If your firm allows you to do the following types of marketing activities, there is usually no issue launching a campaign:

  • Use your own website or landing pages
  • Run ads (such as Facebook ads)
  • Publish educational videos (for example a video sales letter or YouTube videos)

However, if your firm does not allow ads, videos, or custom landing pages, then it becomes difficult to implement the marketing systems Skyline Social uses to generate appointments.

Examples of Firms Where Advisors May Have Marketing Restrictions

While many financial advisors today are allowed to run digital marketing campaigns, some firms maintain stricter marketing policies.

In certain cases, advisors may not be allowed to:

  • Run online ads
  • Publish marketing videos
  • Use their own website or landing pages

Instead, advisors may be required to use only the firm’s centralized marketing systems.

Examples of large firms where advisors often face these types of restrictions include:

  • Edward Jones
  • Bank of America (Merrill Lynch)
  • Morgan Stanley
  • Northwestern Mutual

At some branches of these firms, advisors may have limited ability to run independent marketing campaigns or create their own advertising materials.

Because Skyline Social campaigns rely on tools such as:

  • Digital advertising
  • Educational video marketing
  • Custom landing pages

Advisors at firms with these restrictions may not be able to fully implement our marketing system.

Policies can vary depending on the advisor’s role, branch policies, or firm guidelines, so it’s always best to check with your compliance department.

If your firm allows digital marketing and educational content, there’s a strong chance Skyline Social’s system can work for you.

How Financial Advisor Marketing Compliance Works

Financial advisor marketing is regulated primarily under the SEC Investment Adviser Marketing Rule (Rule 206(4)-1) for RIAs, along with similar standards used by FINRA for broker-dealers.

These rules are designed to ensure that marketing is truthful, balanced, and not misleading.

The regulations cover areas such as:

  • Advertising claims
  • Testimonials and endorsements
  • Performance results
  • Third-party ratings
  • Marketing partnerships

Because of these rules, financial advisors need marketing strategies that balance effectiveness with regulatory oversight.

This is why many advisors run their marketing materials through their firm’s compliance department before publishing them.

Skyline Social campaigns are designed to fit within that process.

How Skyline Social Builds Compliance-Friendly Campaigns

Skyline Social specializes in lead generation for financial advisors and other regulated professionals.

Instead of aggressive or misleading marketing tactics, campaigns are built using a compliance-aware framework.

Educational Marketing Instead of Promises

Many compliance issues arise when marketing promises unrealistic financial outcomes.

Skyline Social campaigns focus primarily on education instead of guarantees.

Typical campaign topics include:

  • Retirement planning insights
  • Tax strategy discussions
  • Market risk awareness
  • Financial planning mistakes to avoid

Educational marketing tends to be easier for compliance departments to approve because it focuses on information and consultation rather than investment promises.

Advisors Approve All Marketing Content

Skyline Social does not publish marketing content without advisor approval.

Before any campaign launches:

  • Advisors review scripts and ad copy
  • Compliance teams can review marketing materials
  • Required disclosures can be added

Nothing goes live until it has been approved.

Designed for the SEC Marketing Rule

Modern advisor marketing must follow the SEC marketing rule, which governs how advisors advertise.

This includes guidelines around:

  • Testimonials
  • Performance claims
  • Marketing disclosures

Skyline Social campaigns are structured so advisors can easily include disclosures required by their compliance department.

Advisors Maintain Control of Their Messaging

Skyline Social does not impersonate advisors or publish content without approval.

Instead:

  • Advisors appear in their own videos
  • Advisors approve scripts and messaging
  • Advisors control their brand communication

This keeps advisors fully in control of their marketing.

What the Compliance Process Looks Like When Working With Skyline Social

Many advisors want to understand how compliance works during the marketing process.

If you visit the Skyline Social Done-For-You page, you’ll see that our system follows a clear step-by-step process for launching campaigns.

Compliance review can happen at every step of the process.

Step 1: Strategy & Campaign Planning

We begin by developing a marketing strategy based on:

  • Your target audience
  • Your services
  • Your firm’s marketing policies

This strategy can be shared with your compliance department if needed.

Step 2: Script & Marketing Content Creation

Next we create the campaign materials, which may include:

  • Video scripts
  • Ad copy
  • Landing page messaging
  • Educational content topics

These materials are sent to you so they can be submitted to compliance for approval before publishing.

Step 3: Funnel & Landing Page Setup

Once messaging is approved, we build the marketing funnel.

This may include:

  • Landing pages
  • Appointment booking pages
  • Video pages
  • Lead capture forms

If required, these pages can also be reviewed by compliance before launch.

Step 4: Advertising Launch

After all materials are approved, the campaign can be launched.

This may involve platforms such as:

  • Facebook / Meta ads
  • Other digital advertising platforms
  • YouTube videos

Step 5: Ongoing Campaign Optimization

As campaigns run, we may test new:

  • Ads
  • Video topics
  • Educational messaging

Any new materials can again be submitted to compliance for approval.

Working Directly With Your Compliance Department

In many cases it’s easiest for Skyline Social to work directly with your compliance department.

If helpful, we can:

  • Send marketing materials directly to compliance for review
  • Answer questions about campaign structure
  • Make edits requested by compliance officers

This helps make the process smoother for both you and your firm.

Who Skyline Social Is Best For

Skyline Social tends to work best for financial advisors who:

  • Want to generate qualified consultations online
  • Are open to educational marketing and video content
  • Are allowed by their firm to run digital advertising
  • Can use landing pages or their own website
  • Are comfortable recording educational videos or explaining financial concepts

Many advisors who work with Skyline Social are:

  • Independent RIAs
  • Independent financial advisors
  • Advisors who sell insurance products, such as annuities (which have less regulations)
  • Advisors with flexible marketing policies
  • Advisors who want to grow beyond referrals and seminars

Who Skyline Social May Not Be a Fit For

Skyline Social may not be the right fit if:

  • Your firm does not allow digital advertising
  • You cannot create educational videos
  • Your firm requires all marketing to go through a centralized corporate system
  • You are unable to use landing pages or your own website

This is often the case for advisors at certain large firms where marketing is tightly controlled.

Examples sometimes include advisors at firms such as:

  • Edward Jones
  • Bank of America (Merrill Lynch)
  • Morgan Stanley
  • Northwestern Mutual

Policies vary by branch and advisor role, so it’s always best to confirm with your compliance department.

However, if your firm allows digital marketing and educational content, Skyline Social’s system can typically be implemented.

FAQs

Is Skyline Social compliant for financial advisors?

Skyline Social campaigns are designed to work within financial advisor compliance frameworks. Advisors approve all marketing materials before publication, and materials can be reviewed by compliance departments before launch.

Has Skyline Social worked with LPL Financial?

Yes, some of our clients work with LPL Financial. Based on our experience, LPL advisors are typically allowed to run Facebook ad campaigns, although TikTok ads are generally not permitted under their compliance guidelines.

We have also found that LPL prefers advisors to use OnceHub for appointment scheduling instead of Calendly. Aside from those adjustments, we’ve been able to successfully launch and manage lead generation campaigns for financial advisors affiliated with LPL.

Has Skyline Social worked with Northwestern Mutual?

We have spoken with financial advisors at Northwestern Mutual in the past. However, based on our most recent discussions with advisors there (last confirmed in April 2026), Northwestern Mutual does not allow advisors to run their own Facebook ad campaigns or use custom landing pages outside of the firm’s approved systems.

While advisors are able to boost Facebook posts, our process is built around running targeted Facebook ads through Ads Manager and directing prospects to dedicated landing pages designed to maximize conversions and appointment quality.

Because of these restrictions, we have not been able to effectively implement our full lead generation system for Northwestern Mutual advisors.

Can financial advisors legally run ads?

Yes. Financial advisors can run online ads and digital marketing campaigns as long as the content follows regulatory guidelines and their firm’s policies.

Are Facebook ads allowed for financial advisors?

Yes. Many advisors run Facebook ads for educational topics such as retirement planning and financial consultations. What matters is the content of the ad, not the platform.

Can financial advisors publish YouTube videos?

Yes. Educational videos are widely used to explain topics such as retirement planning, market volatility, tax strategies, and financial planning mistakes. These videos can be reviewed by compliance before publishing.

Can advisors use landing pages?

Yes. Landing pages are commonly used to offer consultations, provide educational resources, and allow prospects to schedule appointments.

Are testimonials allowed for financial advisors?

Under the updated SEC Marketing Rule, testimonials may be allowed if proper disclosures are included and oversight requirements are followed.

Does Skyline Social work with compliance departments?

Yes. Many advisors submit marketing materials created by Skyline Social to their compliance department before launch, and Skyline Social can also communicate directly with compliance teams if needed.
